Yankees prospect charged with DUI in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Authorities say a New York Yankees pitching prospect has been arrested for drunken driving in Tampa.

Police say 21-year-old Omar Luis Rodriguez was pulled over early Friday morning and charged with driving under the influence. Hillsborough County jail records show he was later released on $500 bail.

Tampa officers reported Rodriguez was driving a red Mercedes the wrong direction on a one-way street. Tests determined his blood-alcohol to be 0.10 percent. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08 percent.

Rodriguez defected from Cuba in 2012 and received a multimillion-dollar signing bonus from the Yankees that year. He played in the Gulf Coast Rookie League last year.

Rodriguez drew international attention pitching for Cuba in the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship.

The Yankees didn't comment on the arrest.
