Top Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Aaron Nola is one step closer the majors.

The former first-round draft pick has been promoted from the Phillies' Double-A affiliate in Reading, Penn., to their Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley, Penn., according to MLB.com.

In 12 starts in the minors this season, Nola has notched a 7-3 record with a 1.88 ERA, 59 strikeouts, and a 0.89 WHIP in 76 2/3 innings.

The report notes that general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. stated earlier in the season that he "would not be surprised to see Nola with the Phillies before the end of the season."
