Texans at Packers: Game preview, odds, prediction

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Green Bay Packers will host the Houston Texans on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET in Week 13. Here is a game preview, the betting odds, and game prediction.

Because the AFC South and NFC North playoff races are still pretty close, slumping teams are still very much in the hunt for a postseason spot. Sunday Dec. 4 will feature two of those teams as the Green Bay Packers (5-6) will host the Houston Texans (6-5).

Both teams desperately need a win for different reasons. While Houston needs a win to stay a game ahead of the Tennessee Titans, Green Bay must win to keep up with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings.

The Texans are looking to end a two-game losing streak, which has allowed the Titans to tie them in wins. With a loss on Sunday, Houston and Tennessee would be tied in the standings. The Texans have been poor on the road this season with a 1-4 record.

Their offense ranks 29th in scoring, 31st in passing yards per game, and fifth in rushing yards. Meanwhile, Houston’s defense has been carrying the load even without J.J. Watt. They rank in the top 15 in scoring and the top 10 in yards allowed.

The Packers will look to build off of their strong performance on Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. While they are 1-4 in their last five games, Green Bay has a 3-2 record at Lambeau Field this season. Aaron Rodgers has had to carry an injury ridden offense, accounting for almost all of their total touchdowns.

Here are the trends to know with regards to Houston: 1.) Texans are 2-4-1 ATS in its last seven games. 2.) Houston is 1-4 ATS in its last five games on the road. 3.) The total has gone over in four of Houston’s last six games on the road.

Here are the trends to know about Green Bay: 1.) The total has gone over in four of Green Bay’s last five games. 2.) The Packers are 17-5 straight up in their last 22 games at home. 3.) The total has gone under in nine of Green Bay’s last 11 games at home.

Both teams enter this game struggling, however, Green Bay has the momentum right now. They also have the much better quarterback. If their defense can play like they did against the Eagles, Houston shouldn’t be a problem for Green Bay.
