Skins' Redd suspended 4 games for substance-abuse violation

Published Nov. 18, 2015 4:23 p.m. ET

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) Washington Redskins running back Silas Redd has been suspended four games without pay while on injured reserve for violating the NFL's policy for substances of abuse.

The league announced the penalty Wednesday, but did not say exactly what Redd did.

Redd is out for the season after injuring right knee ligaments in Washington's preseason opener in August.

He had 16 carries as a rookie last season.

Redd is the second Redskins player suspended by the NFL this week while on injured reserve. Linebacker Junior Galette was given a two-game ban Monday for violating the personal-conduct policy.
