Adverse conditions prove to be no hindrance for 49ers K Dawson

The field conditions have been suspect at times and the wind is a constant issue, but Phil Dawson continues to thrive in his 17th season.

Dawson, in his third season as the San Francisco 49ers' placekicker, has converted on 10 consecutive field goals attempts after his first opportunity of the season was blocked.

The 40-year-old Dawson is coming off his most productive game, banging home four field goals in the 49ers' 25-20 victory over the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. Among the conversions was a season-long 53-yard kick.

“You never know, going into any game when your opportunities are going to come and how many you’re going to get,” Dawson said after per CSNBayArea.com. “It’s just part of the job. Some games come along when you’re out there a lot. Those are the enjoyable ones because you get into the flow of the game. But there are going to be several when that’s not the case.”

Dawson's performance was more impressive in light of the fact that field conditions at Levi's Stadium were not exactly optimal for the game. Baltimore counterpart Justin Tucker's plant foot disappeared into the sod on a missed 45-yard attempt. And then there is the wind.

“In this stadium, literally at the start of every offensive series I was communicating with the coaches what I thought on that drive," Dawson said. "It might be 55 one drive. It might be 50 the next. So just a lot of communication has to take place with the swirling winds, you never know.”
