Reports: Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski expected to play Sunday vs. Jets

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is expected to return from injury in Sunday’s game against the Jets, according to multiple reports. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport first reported the news.

Gronkowski missed last week’s game against the 49ers after injuring his chest on a hit from Earl Thomas in Week 10. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Gronkowski has had “bleeding and bruising in his chest,” while Rapoport has previously reported that the injury included a punctured lung.

Gronkowski missed the first two games of the season with a hamstring injury. In seven games this year he has 25 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns. He currently leads the NFL with 21.6 yards per catch.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is listed as questionable with a knee injury but he is also expected to play, Schefter reports. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET.
