Miami Dolphins Jordan Cameron likely done in Miami

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Two years ago the Miami Dolphins made tight-end Jordan Cameron a point of emphasis in free agency. Less than two actual seasons and Cameron is likely done with the Dolphins if not the NFL entirely.

Cameron has been placed on the IR list by the Dolphins and will not return this season. He is in the final year of his two-year contract and it would be a shocking surprise if the Dolphins entertained him coming back next season. In fact, Cameron may never play another NFL down. Ever.

Earlier this year Cameron suffered his 4th concussion in as many seasons. He has been seen by neuro specialists and still has not been cleared to return to the field. There are serious concerns about his future in the league and what another concussion might do.

The Dolphins were aware of his history with concussions from his time with the Cleveland Browns but they felt he was still a better option on the field and financially than Charles Clay who they opted not match an offer sheet by the Buffalo Bills.

Over his career, Cameron has 173 receptions for 2,046 yards and 14 touchdowns. He made the Pro-Bowl in 2013.  Over the past two seasons Cameron has struggled with consistency in catching the ball. It was widely speculated that he may not have been retained following last season. The Dolphins and Cameron agreed to a slightly modified salary for 2016 but the Dolphins were not able to get any value out of their money.
