Darrelle Revis responds to report that claims he doesn't want to play anymore
Darrelle Revis hasn’t played at his usual Pro Bowl form this season, leading many to speculate that the 31-year-old cornerback has lost a step now that he's in his 10th year in the NFL. A report surfaced Wednesday night that indicated a confidant close to the New York Jets star said that Revis doesn’t want to play football anymore.
Revis addressed the report Thursday, saying that he still has “a lot of football to play” and that the team’s struggles might have contributed to this latest rumor.
“I still love the game,” Revis said, via SNY. "I think that’s why I’m still playing the game, just the love for it,” Revis said. “It’s the competitive nature in me to go out and try to perform to the best of my abilities on Sundays. I don’t think me being questioned about that … it’s really bizarre in a way. At the same time I understand the position we’re in as a team right now. And I’m the target. That comes with the territory. It just comes with the territory. You just persevere through it and know that in the end, when the smoke clears, everything will take care of itself.”
The Jets have lost three in a row and are last in the AFC East with a 3-8 record. The organization still owes Revis $6 million, a sum he would lose if he decided to call it quits now.
Revis signed a five-year, $70 million deal, which included $39 million guaranteed, in 2015.
