San Francisco Giants:0 Giant Sergio Romo is Reportedly Close to Signing with New Team
Former San Francisco Giants Closer Sergio Romo has reportedly signed a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network. However, according to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports, it is possible another team has raised their offer.
The Giants began the off-season signing closer Mark Melancon to a four year deal, and the addition of a new closer meant saying goodbye to the world champion.

Romo, who was drafted in the 28th round of the 2005 draft out of Mesa St. College, spent nine seasons in the San Francisco bullpen. The right hander was an invaluable part of all three World Series championship teams in San Francisco.
In nine seasons in San Francisco, Romo had a 2.58 ERA with a 2.71 FIP, 0.955 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 and 5.6 K/BB.

Romo took over the closer role in 2012 and helped lead the Giants bullpen to a second championship in three seasons. After 14 saves in 2012, Romo saved 61 games over the next two years. He lost his closer job to Santiago Casilla during the 2014 season, however, and went back to his role as a middle inning reliever.
Romo remained in that role for the remainder of his Giants career. The team’s struggles last season in the bullpen were not immune to Romo. After six seasons where Romo averaged over 50 innings a season, He only pitched 30.2 in 2016.
The core four of Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez, Casilla and Romo were part of all three championship teams and earned the nickname “The Core Four.” Affeldt retired after the 2015 season and Casilla signed with the Oakland Athletics earlier this off-season. Now with Romo reportedly signing with another team, the core of the Giants bullpen is all but gone.
