Royals prospect Perrin among three minor leaguers suspended for drugs of abuse

NEW YORK — Kansas City pitcher Jon Perrin was one of three players suspended Friday after a positive test for a drug of abuse under baseball's minor league drug program.

Seattle outfielder Eric Filia has been suspended for 100 games after a third positive test. He served a 50-game suspension at the start of last season after his second positive test for a drug of abuse. The 26-year-old returned to hit .274 with two homers and 38 RBIs in 79 games for Double-A Arkansas.

Perrin and Boston pitcher Chase Shugart were suspended for 50 games each following second positive tests for a drug of abuse.

Perrin, a 25-year-old right-hander, was 3-4 with a 3.67 ERA in six starts and 27 relief appearances at Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha last season.

Shugart, a 22-year-old right-hander, was 0-1 with a 1.13 ERA in four starts last season in the Gulf Coast and New York-Penn Leagues.

Twelve players have been suspended this year under the minor league program, plus Boston pitcher Steven Wright, Kansas City pitcher Eric Skoglund and Houston pitcher Francis Martes under the major league program.
