Injuries keep coming for Dallas

Published Sep. 7, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

The Dallas Cowboys' Week 1 roster took another hit Wednesday as top draft pick Tyron Smith and starting cornerback Mike Jenkins left practice with knee injuries.

The Cowboys, already likely without starting cornerback Terence Newman for Sunday's game against the New York Jets because of a groin injury, were forced to watch Jenkins leave the practice field early just four days before the season opener, according to a report on the team's website.

Smith, Dallas' first-round (ninth overall) draft pick and projected starter at right tackle, reportedly hyperextended his knee during practice. The former USC standout could be out for two to four weeks, according to ESPNDallas.com.

The team listed Smith as "limited" on the Cowboys' practice report.
