Bowyer takes third in Modified race

While Tony Stewart's Sprint car crash in Canada has been making headlines, he’s not the only NASCAR Sprint Cup driver taking on some extracurricular racing this week.

Clint Bowyer, who is second in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings, took a bit of a break this week. He headed to his home state of Kansas on Tuesday night to compete in Mod Mania at RMP Speedway in Hays.

Bowyer fell short of the win, finishing third to Clint Bowyer Racing driver Jared Landers in the Modified division race. But he found himself caught up in some of the rough-and-tumble action.

"It was fun, but it was a rough one, wow," Bowyer told KWCH.com. "It's been a long time since I've been on a track that rough."

Landers won by crossing the line sideways, according to the report.

"Never had a finish like that," Landers said, according to the report. "I was like, 'We gonna make it all right,' but then we just finished the rest of his car off."

The pair was on hand to help promote Bowyer’s sponsor, Crawford Supply Co. of Hays. Bowyer was making his second appearance in the race.

Bowyer, whose car reportedly showed the wear and tear of the rough racing, went on to find the silver lining in falling short to his own racer.

"He does this for a living," he told the reporter. "I drive on asphalt for a living. If he wants to get in a Cup car and race sometime, I'm sure the shoe would be on the other foot."
