Mackanin says it's 'probable' Phillies trade Cole Hamels by deadline
July is officially upon us, which gives the Philadelphia Phillies 30 days to trade Cole Hamels, a task the team's interim manager Pete Mackanin thinks the front office can execute.
Hamels' name has been floating around in the trade winds for a year as the Phillies search for the right package in exchange for the lefty ace.
Now that the Phillies are in full rebuilding mode, it's highly likely Hamels will be traded this season, a notion Mackanin agrees with.
"I would think that would be probable," Mackanin said Wednesday of a potential Hamels trade, per NJ.com. "I don't want to speak for Ruben or anyone else involved in making that deal. We're not involved at all here on the field, but the whole point of this year basically is to see young guys, help us get ready for next year and beyond."
Hamels isn't the only Phillie who has been mentioned in trade rumors this season. Both outfielder and closer Jonathan Papelbon have drawn interest around the league as well.
"If we can get good deals for Hamels or Papelbon or whoever else might be out there. … There might be a team that would come after Ben Revere," Mackanin said. "We're not sure about anything. We'll just wait and see what develops."
