Indians place OF Morgan on 15-day DL

Published May. 15, 2014 5:28 p.m. ET

TORONTO (AP) The Cleveland Indians have placed speedy outfielder Nyjer Morgan on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee.

Morgan got hurt running down a fly ball in left field on Wednesday night. Morgan was only in the game because Michael Brantley had left with a stiff back. Brantley was out of the Cleveland lineup on Thursday night, and Ryan Raburn started in his place.

Morgan, who was signed as a free agent during the offseason, has given the Indians a spark while filling in when center fielder Michael Bourn was out with a tight hamstring.

The Indians recalled infielder Jesus Aguilar from Triple-A Columbus. Aguilar is batting .298 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs in 37 games for the Clippers.

He'll make his major league debut Thursday night as Cleveland's designated hitter in the series finale against the Blue Jays.
