Stetson ends North Florida's 18-game home winning streak
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) Derick Newton scored 22 points, Brian Pegg added with a season-high 12 rebounds and Stetson beat North Florida 86-82 Monday night, snapping the Ospreys' 18-game home winning streak.
Nick Malonga made a layup with 2:15 remaining, which ended North Florida's three-plus minute scoreless stretch, to pull within 79-78. On the Ospreys' next possession, Dallas Moore made a hook shot for an 80-79 lead. After a Newton basket, Moore sank a runner in the lane for an 82-81 advantage with 50 seconds left but North Florida would not score again.
Newton grabbed an offensive rebound and converted a 3-point play with 18.7 seconds left to give Stetson an 84-82 lead.
Malonga missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 6.1 seconds left and Newton hit two free throws.
Divine Myles added 15 points for Stetson (9-15, 3-5 Atlantic Sun).
Moore scored 25 points for North Florida (18-7, 7-1), which had its program-record, eight-game winning streak snapped.
