Austria coach Foda drops top scorer Janko for friendly

VIENNA (AP) Austria coach Franco Foda has overlooked striker Marco Janko for the team's friendly against Uruguay.

The Sparta Prague forward, the top scorer under previous coach Marcel Koller, was missing from the 24-player squad announced Thursday.

With 28 goals in 66 matches, the 34-year-old Janko is fourth on Austria's all-time scorers list, trailing only Toni Polster (44), Hans Krankl (34) and Hansi Horvath (29).

Foda called up three players from his current club, league leader Sturm Graz. He also added Salzburg defender Andreas Ulmer, who was dropped by Koller after scheduling his wedding a few days before Austria's World Cup qualifier against Ireland in June.

Foda officially starts in January but Graz has allowed him to lead the national team against Uruguay on Nov. 14.
