Haden suffers concussion, McCown toughs out ankle injury in OT win
After all of the back and forth scoring in the second half, there was no way Browns quarterback Josh McCown was going to leave the game in overtime after suffering an ankle injury.
McCown's ankle was rolled on by one of his lineman on the fifth play of Cleveland's 12-play drive that ended with the game-winning field goal. He was seen limping around in the locker room after the game but limping off the field was never under consideration.
"No, not in that one,'' McCown said via Cleveland.com. "You glance down and make sure it's still attached and if it is, you play.''
McCown set a franchise regular season record with 457 passing yards in the 33-30 win. He plans on being back behind center next week against the visiting Broncos, but head coach Mike Pettine said the ankle will be evaluated again Monday once the adrenaline goes down from the record-setting victory.
It will be up to the doctors if cornerback Joe Haden will be able to play next Sunday. Haden, already dealing with a broken finger and rib injury, suffered a concussion on the first play of the fourth quarter and did not return. He'll be in the league's concussion protocol this week and will need clearance from an independent neurologist before returning.
Linebacker Scott Solomon was also lost to a knee injury in the second quarter and could be out for a few weeks. Solomon was playing in his first game of the season due to an ankle injury.
"We're not sure of the severity of it,'' Pettine said. "That could be a little bit of time or longer.''
