UTEP pulls away in 2nd half, beats cold-shooting Rice 80-62 (Dec 30, 2017)

EL PASO, Texas (AP) Trey Wade scored a career-high 16 points and UTEP pulled away midway through the second half to beat cold-shooting Rice 80-62 on Saturday night.

Connor Cashaw's 3-pointer gave Rice a 39-34 lead with 17:32 left. Wade scored 10 points and Isiah Osborne added six during a 27-9 run, and the Miners led 61-48 with 6:37 remaining and cruised from there.

Wade was 7 of 11 from the field. Osborne added 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting for UTEP (6-8, 1-1 Conference USA), which shot 31 of 56 from the field (55 percent) and made 12 from beyond the arc. Kobe Magee scored 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting from long range.

Cashaw scored 17 points and Tim Harrison had 11 to lead the Owls (3-12, 0-2), who shot just 22 of 61 from the field (36 percent) and missed 25 3-point attempts.
