Cardinals announce 2018 Opening Day roster
Pitcher Jordan Hicks, catcher Francisco Peña and No. 5 starter Jack Flaherty became the three final additions to the St. Louis Cardinals' Opening Day roster, which the club announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals purchased the contracts of Hicks and Peña and recalled Flaherty from Triple-A Memphis. Flaherty's move was a formality that had been in the works since Adam Wainwright was targeted for the disabled list last week with a left hamstring strain.
The Cardinals also optioned pitcher John Brebbia to Memphis and announced that infielder Breyvic Valera and pitcher Josh Lucas have been designated for assignment.
Wainwright and pitchers Luke Gregerson (left hamstring strain) and Alex Reyes (right elbow) have been placed on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26.
