Nationals surrender a run on a botched intentional walk

Published Aug. 28, 2016 10:59 a.m. ET

With two outs and runners on second and third in the fourth inning of Saturday's Colorado-Washington game, the Nationals decided to intentionally walk Daniel Descalso - but pitcher A.J. Cole wasn't exactly on the same page as his catcher.

Cole fired a low pitch not far outside the plate that dipped out of the reach of Wilson Ramos and reached the backstop, allowing Nolan Arenado to score. Cole eventually did walk Descalso, but gave up an RBI single to the next batter.
