Florida DB Kirk Callahan will not return to program in 2016

On Friday, Florida head coach Jim McElwain announced that defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan will not return to the program.

He had been with the Gators the past two years. Prior to that, he had coached at UCF -- in addition to two graduate assistant jobs with North Carolina and Florida.

It's an interesting time to make this announcement with such close proximity to signing day. Florida currently has five defensive backs committed. One of those pledges -- Jeawon Taylor from Montgomery, Ala. -- has already questioned the decision. It remains to be seen whether Callahan's departure will in fact disrupt any preexisting commitments.

Both of Florida's starting corners -- Jalen Tabor and Vernon Hargreaves III -- were first-team All-SEC selections this past year. With the immense amount of secondary talent hailing from the state of Florida year in and year out, this coaching position figures to be a highly sought-after job.
