Revolution fire coach Brad Friedel after 2 wins in season

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Revolution have fired coach Brad Friedel after just two wins so far this season.

The team announced Thursday that assistant coach Mike Lapper will take over as interim coach.

Friedel finished with a 12-21-13 record through less than two seasons in charge. The Revolution are 2-8-2, at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

New England lost 5-0 to the Chicago Fire on Wednesday night. The team allowed three late goals in an 11-minute span.

The Revolution also announced that assistant coach Marcelo Neveleff will leave on June 3 to become the technical director of the Dominican Republic Under-23 national team.
