Rams bench 2014 No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson after disastrous start to 2016

The Los Angeles Rams – then the St. Louis Rams – spent the second overall pick in the 2014 draft on offensive tackle Greg Robinson. He was a raw lineman out of Auburn who had the size and outstanding athleticism to play either of the tackle spots, giving the Rams options along the line for the foreseeable future.

He has played in every game since being drafted, but that changed Sunday. And it wasn't because he was injured. The Rams made Robinson a healthy scratch, effectively benching him.

Robinson had played every offensive snap since the start of last season, which shows how quickly things have changed for him in 2016.

Robinson hasn’t played well at all this season, being flagged 12 times in 10 games. He also reportedly came to training camp 15 pounds overweight, which is never a good sign for the cornerstone of a franchise.

It remains to be seen what sort of effect this will have on quarterback Jared Goff, who’s making his second career start, and running back Todd Gurley. What we do know is that things can’t get much worse than they already are on the Rams’ offensive line.
