Full Practice No. 1 results for Monster Energy Cup Series at Atlanta

HAMPTON, Ga. -- It was a brisk Friday afternoon as Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams wrapped up first practice for Sunday's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 (2 p.m. ET, FOX) at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Ryan Newman was fastest in the opening session at 187.875 miles per hour. Jamie McMurray was second with a time of 187.735 mph.

Overcoming starter issues that plagued the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota early, Kyle Busch finished the session in third with a time of 187.595 mph.

Matt Kenseth and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rounded out the top five.

Up next for the Cup Series is qualifying for Sunday's race, beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
