Roberts resigns at Southeastern Louisiana for FBS post
(STATS) - Southeastern Louisiana coach Ron Roberts resigned after six seasons to accept the defensive coordinator's position at UL Lafayette on Friday.
Roberts, 50, posted a 42-29 record at Southeastern, leading the Lions to back-to-back Southland Conference titles and FCS playoff appearances in 2013 and '14. They went 6-5 this past season.
Offensive coordinator Greg Stevens will serve as the interim head coach while the school undergoes a national search for a permanent replacement.
"We're extremely thankful to Coach Roberts for his dedication in taking our football program to unprecedented heights," athletic director Jay Artigues said. "He's been a tremendous asset to our university and is leaving our program in great shape. We plan on moving swiftly, but thoroughly, in our search for our next head football coach."
Roberts is replacing Karl Scott on coach Billy Napier's UL Lafayette staff. Scott was hired last month, but departed after three weeks to become the linebackers coach at Alabama. He spent three seasons on Roberts' staff at Southeastern, including as the defensive coordinator in 2014.
Since October, 24 FCS programs have had a head coaching change.
