Auslander scores 18, Coppin St. beats Bethune-Cookman 95-91

BALTIMORE (AP) — Kent Auslander hit 4 of 4 from 3-point range and scored 17 of his career-high 18 points in the second half to help Coppin State beat Bethune-Cookman 95-91 on Monday night.

Justin Steers had 17 points while Lamar Morgan and Dejuan Clayton each scored 15 for Coppin State. Chad Andrews-Fulton finished with eight points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Eagles (4-19, 4-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

Cletrell Pope converted a 3-point play that gave the Wildcats a 67-65 lead with 7:43 to play but they missed seven of their next eight shots as Coppin State used an 18-7 run to take the lead for good. Justin Steers made a layup, converted a 3-point play and, after Bethune-Cookman's Dondre Duffus made 1-of-2 free throws, threw down a dunk to cap the spurt and make it 83-74 with 2:15 to play. The Wildcats scored nine of the next 12 points to pull within three and Pope's free throw with nine seconds remaining made it 91-89. Auslander made a pair of foul shots two seconds later to seal it.

Malik Maitland led Bethune-Cookman (8-13, 3-4) with 20 points, including eight in the final 2:01. Shawntrez Davis fouled out with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including 5 of 5 from 3-point range, in 19 minutes and Duffus added 17 points. Pope finished with 14 and 16 rebounds, his 13th double-double this season.
