DeVries and Drake earn 92-88 OT win over Southern Illinois
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Tucker DeVries scored 27 points, five in the overtime, as Drake took down Southern Illinois 92-88 on Wednesday night.
DeVries had five rebounds for the Bulldogs (19-5, 10-3 Missouri Valley Conference). Darnell Brodie scored 18 points while shooting 6 of 7 from the field and 6 for 9 from the line, and added eight rebounds. Atin Wright shot 5 of 7 from the field and 5 for 7 from the line to finish with 15 points.
Xavier Johnson led the way for the Salukis (15-9, 7-6) with 35 points, five assists and three steals. Trent Brown added 13 points for Southern Illinois. In addition, Troy D'Amico had 12 points and six assists.
DeVries put up 10 points in the first half for Drake, which led 38-37 at halftime. Brodie led Drake with 14 second-half points and DeVries hit the game-tying layup with 19 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. DeVries scored their five overtime points while finishing 2 of 4 from the floor.
