Winter Olympics: Ducks to host sendoff for local figure skaters, coaches

The Ducks, along with The Rinks, will host a pretty cool sendoff on Wednesday.

Local figure skaters, and coaches, who train at The Rinks-Lakewood Ice Facility, will be honored before they head to the Winter Olympics.

Fans are invited, between 4-5p, to skate with U.S. Olympians Nathan Chen, Adam Rippon, Ashley Wagner, Czech Republic Olympian Michal Brezina, U.S. Alternate Mariah Bell and France Alternative Romain Ponsart from 4-4:15p, followed by an on-ice autograph session from 4:15-4:30p. with the athletes.

The on ice festivities will continue from 4:30-5pwith a free Learn to Skate lesson, games and local synchronized team exhibitions. The event is free to the public and includes a skate rental if needed.

All five skaters are currently training in Lakewood where renowned figure skating coach Rafael Arutyunyan, along with his team, wife Vera Arutyunyan and Nadia Kanaeva, have taken up a coaching residency leading into the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, taking place Feb. 9-25.
