Carlos Condit: If I bring my 'A' game, I can beat Tyron Woodley
Carlos Condit has reconciled with all of his past defeats, no matter how much they hurt, but one that will always stick in the back of his mind was his 2014 loss to Tyron Woodley.
It was a bout that could have pushed Condit back into title contention but instead he left the Octagon with a torn ACL, and it ultimately cost him more than a year of his career.
Now Condit doesn’t hold any of that against Woodley because injuries are just part of the competition, but it also feels like a bit of unfinished business considering he never really got the chance to complete the fight due to his knee exploding in the second round.
Condit takes nothing away from Woodley with the win, but he's always wanted a second shot at him and it would be even sweeter now that he's holding the UFC welterweight title.
"I would definitely like another crack at him," Condit told FOX Sports. "He won that fight. Yeah, there was some circumstances to me getting injured, but he won the fight.
Woodley has been on a tear lately with three wins in a row, including his stunning first-round knockout over former champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 this summer.
While Woodley walked into the fight as a decided underdog, Condit knew that he had the skills to rip the title away from Lawler and that's exactly how the fight played out.
"A guy like Tyron Woodley, he hits like a truck. I know personally," Condit said. "I actually picked him to win the fight. I was surprised it happened so quickly, but that's MMA. (Expletive) is crazy."
Condit believes a win this weekend over Demian Maia in the main event for FOX UFC Fight Night from Vancouver will earn him another shot at the title and coincidentally another crack at Woodley as well.
Condit would hate to choose which means more to him — the title or getting back the win over Woodley — so it would be the perfect scenario if he could kill two birds with one stone.
"It's kind of hard to choose between the two," Condit said. "If I could get both at the same time — awesome."
