Trotters 'weigh up Keane bid'

July 2, 2011

The Trotters are in the market for striking reinforcements after Daniel Sturridge returned to Chelsea following his successful loan spell and Johan Elmander's departure for Galatasaray at the conclusion of his contract. Keane, who has one year left on his current deal, has admitted he expects to be surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane this summer having fallen well down the pecking order under Harry Redknapp. The 30-year-old Republic of Ireland international spent the second half of last season out on loan with West Ham but was unable to help the Hammers climb away from relegation danger. The well-travelled striker has proved a regular source of goals throughout his career which has taken in further spells with Wolves, Coventry, Leeds, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Celtic, generating a combined transfer fee in excess of £70million. Spurs could be ready to offer Keane as a makeweight in any possible deal to bring in-demand Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill to North London.
