Sanz appointed to CONCACAF general secretary

Enrique Sanz is the new CONCACAF general secretary.

CONCACAF announced Sanz's appointment on Friday, effective July 25. He replaces acting General Secretary Ted Howard, who assumed the interim role in January following the resignation of Chuck Blazer.

CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb says he is confident the organization has selected ''a professional with competence and integrity to implement our road map to reform.''

The appointment of the 38-year-old Columbia-born Sanz was unanimously approved by the executive committee of the Confederation of North and Central American and Caribbean Football.

Blazer resigned in December, a half-year after going public with bribery accusations against his then-boss. The American had been secretary general since 1990.
