PSV take Afellay ban on chin
Afellay was hit with the ban, with one match a conditional suspension, by the Dutch Football Association (the KNVB) after striking Ajax's Eyong Enoh in the stomach during PSV's 4-1 defeat at the Amsterdam ArenA last weekend. The incident went unseen by officials and Afellay was punished retrospectively through the use of television pictures. However, PSV are unhappy with Enoh's role and the lack of punishment imposed on the Ajax midfielder, who was seen to provoke Afellay by treading on his foot. A statement on the club's official website, www.psv.nl, read: "PSV accept the settlement proposal because of the unpredictable justice in this case and has no confidence in a possible adaptation of the sentence. "The pictures obviously show the player Enoh was deliberately provocative and put force on the foot of Afellay. "It is understandable that the prosecutor's reaction proved Afellay guilty, but it is incomprehensible that he ignores the provocative criminal behaviour of the player Enoh." PSV also described as "outrageous" the comments made by fourth official Pol van Boekel in the Dutch media. Van Boekel forecast the ban on Tuesday.
