Roma defender Philippe Mexes has been ruled out for the rest of the season after injuring his knee in the 2-0 loss to Juventus in Serie A.

The France center back limped off after 51 minutes of Sunday's match and underwent a scan a day later that revealed he had damaged the cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Roma announced Monday that Mexes will require surgery and need up to four months to recover. He is likely to miss France's internationals against Belarus, Ukraine and Poland in June.

The 29-year-old Mexes may have played his last game for Roma. His contract expires in June and he has been linked with a offseason transfer to AC Milan.
