Marseille striker Bakari Kone will be sidelined for eight days after injuring his right ankle in a 5-5 draw at Lyon in the French league.

The Ivory Coast player, who scored his team's third goal in Sunday's match but was replaced after one hour, needed seven stitches, Marseille said in a statement on Monday.

Kone left his club to join his Ivory Coast teammates ahead of Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Guinea only "to notify his team about his injury," Marseille said.

Marseille is eighth in the French standings with 19 points from 11 games.
