Football Federation Australia chief executive Ben Buckley will be replaced by former National Rugby League boss David Gallop after a new broadcast deal is completed in about two months.

FFA chairman Frank Lowy said in a statement Tuesday that Buckley, a former Australian Rules football administrator who held the FFA job for six years, raised the prospect of leaving FFA several months ago and the two had agreed that the conclusion of the broadcast deal was the best time to depart.

The statement said Gallop would assume his new role with FFA some time before the end of the year.
