Argentine businessmen wanted in FIFA case request to remain free

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina --

Two Argentine businessmen wanted in a FIFA bribery investigation are petitioning an appeals court to remain free while officials consider U.S. requests for their extradition.

Lawyers for Hugo Jinkis and his son Mariano said Thursday their petition had been presented to the Federal Court of Appeals. The two are among 14 soccer and business officials indicted last month by the U.S. Department of Justice on charges of bribery, racketeering and money-laundering.

The U.S has requested their extradition, which can be a lengthy process in Argentina.Lawyers Francisco Castex and Jorge Anzorreguy say their clients remain in Argentina but didn't provide more details. The Jinkis are owners of Full Play, a sports marketing and broadcast company. They're accused of paying millions of dollars in bribes for rights of Copa America games.
