Tuesday afternoon Dan Uggla was in Mexico. He was sitting by the pool with Evan Longoria and former big leaguer Rick Sutcliffe. He checked his phone to see what time it was, and saw he had about 40 text messages and 40 missed calls.

Then his phone rang. It was his mother.
