Takanashi wins women's ski jump World Cup season-opener

LILLEHAMMER, Norway (AP) Two-time overall champion Sara Takanashi of Japan won the season-opening event on the women's ski jump World Cup on Friday, overcoming a massive first effort from Maja Vtic of Slovenia.

Takanashi had jumps of 95.5 and 97.5 meters for a total score of 251.7 points, beating Vtic by 11.5 points. The Slovenian jumped 101.5 meters in the first round but had lower style points than Takanashi, and then managed just 93 meters in her second jump.

Maren Lundby of Norway was third on 233.6 points.
