Spurs' front office see changes once again

San Antonio's roster has remained virtually intact this summer, with key free agents led by Tim Duncan returning to the fold. The front office hasn't been as lucky.

Two key pieces Danny Ferry and Dennis Lindsey left for general manager jobs. Ferry was the Spurs' vice president of basketball operations for two years before taking over in Atlanta earlier this offseason, while Lindsey was snapped up by Utah on Aug. 7.

"The addition of Dennis to the Jazz front office staff further demonstrates the Miller family's commitment to this franchise," Jazz president Randy Rigby said. "He will be a key element of our basketball operations staff that we already believe is the best in the league. In addition, he brings with him valuable experience from two championship-level organizations, and we appreciate the Spurs allowing us the opportunity to interview him."

Lindsey spent the last five seasons with San Antonio as the Spurs' vice president and assistant general manager. Lindsey's responsibilities with the Spurs included directing all of the team's player personnel matters, leading all draft-related efforts, managing the Spurs' professional, college and international scouting aspects, and overseeing the team's analytical department. He also handled the day-to-day management of basketball operations, including salary cap management and interfacing with the NBA, coaches and player agents.

Poaching the Spurs' front office has been common practice in the league for several years. The franchise is considered a model of consistency and success, and former San Antonio personnel have succeeded in other locales, such as Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti.
