Rangers’ McClellan sidelined by muscle strain

Kyle McClellan's rough spring with the Texas Rangers took another bad turn Saturday as he was diagnosed with a strain of his right lat muscle.

The right-hander is expected to be out three to four weeks before being able to resume a throwing program.

McClellan, a non-roster invitee, was slowed at the beginning of spring training by right shoulder soreness. He's made just one spring appearance for Texas, pitching two scoreless innings.

He has an out in his contract with the Rangers that he can exercise Friday.

McClellan, who was supposed to be stretched out as a starter but had success in the bullpen for St. Louis, had surgery to repair a frayed labrum and split in his right shoulder capsule last July. He showed up in Surprise early and said he was 100 percent.
