A grand jury has indicted a North Carolina police officer for voluntary manslaughter in the shooting of an unarmed man, a former football player at Florida A&M.
The panel handed down the indictment against Charlotte Officer Randall Kerrick on Monday, hours after a judge ruled the North Carolina Attorney General's office could resubmit the case.
A separate grand jury declined to indict Kerrick last week. Because the panel was four members short, Attorney General Roy Cooper decided to make a request to send the case to a second jury.

Investigators say Kerrick shot 24-year-old Jonathan Ferrell on Sept. 14 as he looked for help after a car crash.
The voluntary manslaughter charge carries a prison sentence of up to 11 years.
