MLS Defender of the Year Laurent Ciman is staying in Montréal. Ciman agreed to terms with the Impact on a new deal to remain in Québec through the 2018 season, the club announced on Friday morning.

The Belgium defender, 30, moved to MLS last year from Standard Liège and immediately established himself as one of the top defenders in the league. He played a critical part in the Impact's run to the CONCACAF Champions League final and the MLS playoffs last year. He also scooped up MLS Defender of the Year and Best XI plaudits at the end of the campaign.

"I am very pleased to be able to extend my contract with the Impact," Ciman said in a statement. "My family and I are happy in this city and we love our new lives here in Québec. We feel privileged to be able to grow here. On the sporting side, I feel comfortable with this club and I am proud to be here for several more years. I want to thank the organization and fans for their support. I'll do everything to help this team win."

The revised agreement extends Ciman's deal with the Impact for one additional year, Impact technical director Adam Braz said in a statement.
