Michigan linebacker Jake Ryan will probably miss the 2013 season after tearing an ACL in practice on Tuesday.

Ryan, considered one of Michigan's top defenders, was named second-team All-Big Ten by the media after last season. As a sophomore, he was given Bennie Oosterbaan's No. 47 Legends jersey to replace his own No. 90, and as a redshirt junior, he was expected to take on an even bigger role this fall.

With the average recovery time from a torn ACL being 9-12 months, Ryan would need a medical miracle to get back into the field this season. Even Adrian Peterson, who stunned football with his quick recovery, was coming back from an injury sustained on Christmas Eve, not in mid-March.
