Magic Musings: Orlando snaps road skid by beating reeling Philadelphia

The Orlando Magic can finally stop answering questions about when they are ever going to next win a game away from home.

Coming alive on offense in the second half after slogging their way through the opening two quarters, the Magic snapped a 16-game road losing streak with a 101-90 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. Philadelphia-area native Jameer Nelson sparked a 34-point fourth quarter that broke the game open as the Magic sent the reeling 76ers to their 12th defeat in a row.

Not since an 83-82 win Dec. 16 at Chicago had the Magic recorded a victory away from home. The 16 consecutive defeats tied a franchise record set in 2006. That streak was also halted with a win at Philadelphia.

Nikola Vucevic scored all 21 of his points in the first three quarters and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. It was the first time Vucevic topped the 20-point mark since he had 21 in a victory over the Sixers in Orlando on Nov. 27.

Victor Oladipo had 17 points and 11 rebounds to easily get the best of the Sixers' Michael Carter-Williams in the third meeting this season of the NBA's top two rookies. Carter-Williams made only three of his 13 field-goal attempts and finished with eight points.

Nelson, who had been on the bench of late down the stretch of games, played the entire fourth quarter and ended up with 16 points and 12 assists. Perhaps most impressive of all, he had no turnovers in 42 minutes.

THE TURNING POINT

With the game tied at 67 through three quarters, the Magic went on an 18-8 run in the opening four minutes of the fourth quarter. They were 4 of 4 from 3-point range during that stretch, with two by Nelson and one apiece by E'Twaun Moore and Andrew Nicholson.

THE DIFFERENCE MAKER

Nelson, who hadn't scored in double figures since Jan. 29, had 12 of his points in the pivotal fourth quarter.

STAT OF THE GAME

After scoring 106 points Tuesday night at Washington, the Magic topped the 100-point mark in consecutive road games for the first time all season.
