Mack Brown signs extension through 2020

Texas football coach Mack Brown signed a contract extension, but he lost the title of highest-paid college football coach in the country.

Brown confirmed Monday, in a report in The Dallas Morning News, that he signed the extension last week. The agreement extends his $5.2 million a year contract, with annual $100,000 raises, four years to 2020.

Texas' board of regents approved the extension in January, following reports at the end of last season that Brown would retire or be forced out.

Also last week, Alabama’s board of regents approved a contract for coach Nick Saban that tops Brown’s, at least for the 2012 season. The extension, according to The Birmingham News, raises Saban’s salary from $4.8 million to $5.3 million this coming season.

With incremental raises, Saban will make $5.96 million in the 2019 season, the final year of the deal, with an average of $5.6 million over the eight years of the contract.
