Halos pitcher Jerome Williams injures hamstring

BY foxsports • March 2, 2012

Angels right-hander Jerome Williams, the leading candidate to win the fifth rotation spot, suffered a left hamstring strain during a defensive drill on Friday and is expected to be sidelined for at least a few days, if not longer.

Williams, who went 4-0 with a 3.68 earned run average in 10 games, including six starts, after being called up by the Angels last August, will be examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum, the Angels' team physician, on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Williams will battle right-handers Garrett Richards and Trevor Bell and left-hander Brad Mills for the final spot in a rotation that will be headed by Jered Weaver, Dan Haren, C.J. Wilson and Ervin Santana.
