Glazer: Aldon Smith could enter rehab this week

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:38 p.m. ET

By Ross Jones, FOXSports.com Following Aldon Smith’s second DUI, people close to the 49ers outside linebacker are pushing for him to enter himself into a rehab facility, NFL insider Jay Glazer said on FOX NFL Sunday. “Those close to Aldon Smith they’re talking to him about him entering a rehab facility as early as this week,” Glazer said. “I don’t remember a time where an NFL player during the season actually entered rehab. This has nothing to do with punishment that the NFL will hand down. This is concern from people inside the 49ers and those close to him that he needs treatment, he needs some help. “If he goes into rehab and if he accepts this, it means he could miss some significant time. Right now they’re saying we’re not dealing with Aldon Smith the player, we’re dealing with Aldon Smith the person and the person needs some help.” Smith, who was arrested Friday after a single-vehicle crash at 7 a.m., was taken to a jail in Santa Clara County jail where he was booked and later released. Smith was also booked on a charge for possession of marijuana. Smith's first alcohol-related incident occurred in January 2012 — after the 49ers were eliminated from the playoffs. Questions?
