DeMarco Murray: This is going to be a great year for me

OXNARD, Calif. -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said on Friday that the Dallas Cowboys haven't seen the best out of DeMarco Murray.

On Sunday, Murray agreed with the NFL's reigning MVP.

"I think he's right on," Murray said after the Cowboys' first walk-through practice of training camp. "This year is going to be a great year for me, I feel. I've come prepared, physically, mentally and emotionally. I'm definitely ready. I'm excited about this year and what we're going to do."

Murray, who became Oklahoma's lead back after Peterson declared for the draft in 2007, will be entering his third NFL season with a significant change in the Cowboys' running game. Murray will no longer have a fullback in front of him.

Dallas released fullback Lawrence Vickers earlier this month, a move made to put a greater emphasis on two tight-end offensive sets.

"A little different, but it's something that I'm definitely looking forward to," Murray said. "I love running out of different type of personnels: 11, 12, 13. Vickers was a great fullback and I wish him the best. It was a tough deal. But this is definitely something I look forward to."

Murray explained how having pass-catchers like Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Witten on the outside and no fullback in the backfield will spread the field and open more running lanes.

"It's going to be hard for them to have seven, eight guys in the box," Murray said.

But will he get more opportunities? Dallas is coming off the worst rushing season in franchise history. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Saturday that they will run the ball more this season.

How does Murray feel about hearing that?

"You get excited, but we'll see what happens," Murray said. "You got to play the game on Sundays. As a running back, you definitely love to have the ball and love to run it. We'll see how the games go."
