Redskins LT Williams to have MRI on right knee
Redskins starting left tackle Trent Williams was going to have an MRI exam on the injured right knee that kept him out for most of Washington's 38-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
Williams said he did not fear that the injury was serious. He was hurt on Washington's second play from scrimmage, then did briefly return before leaving the lineup again.
''Just felt it give out on me,'' said Williams, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 draft.
''I could go left. Just had trouble going right,'' he said. ''Didn't really want to risk giving up a big quarterback hit, so just precautionary reasons.''
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said cornerbacks Cedric Griffin and Crezdon Butler had hurt hamstrings.
When Williams went down in the first quarter, he covered his face with his hands while trainers examined him on the field. Williams walked over to the sideline, where he was looked at again. He eventually headed to the locker room and was not on the field for Washington's second possession.
''No one plays this game injury-free,'' Williams said. ''It's part of the game. You take the good with the bad.''
Jordan Black, who was out of the NFL last year, took over at left tackle while Williams was out. But the starter returned late in the second quarter, before departing again later.
''I don't want any of my guys to get hurt. It's very unfortunate. It's sad,'' said Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, who wound up getting sacked six times Sunday. ''Hopefully it's nothing too serious. ... You can't replace a Trent Williams.''
