Watch as door rips off of a BMW at the Nurburgring

The driver of this Setra Motorsport BMW had to double-check that he wasn’t seeing things.

Driving along one of the long straights at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany, the door of this driver’s BMW blew off at 280 kph (around 174 mph).

The driver had just passed a Porsche on the track when it flew off, but there are no reports that indicate that the Porsche hit the debris.

The driver does a double take before slowing, probably thinking something along the lines of “I’m sure there used to be a door there.”

While this is a lesson to make sure your doors are tightly secure, we’re thinking this probably isn’t a bad way to help with weight reduction.
